Yesssssss. Finally.

Well, long story short, after 10 months of a living hell, Heidi appears to be on the mend for good this time. Last week we took her to the E.R. because her nausea/vomiting was totally out of hand and they pumped her full of the same meds they give her every visit. It stablized her system and the next day she put in a few hours at work. Her boss mentioned that a neighbor was sick in bed vomiting for a year with no amount of tests etc. able to figure out what was wrong. It turned out that an absess tooth was putting infection into her bloodstream and making her sick. Genetically Heidi has the worst dental history of all time so as soon as she relayed the story I asked if she had any teeth that could be doing this. She said absolutely but has been too sick to even care. Long story short, we visited the oral surgeon and voila, she hasn't thrown up in 3 days now!!!! I feel like theres actually hope now that we can get our lives back and that instead of withering away on the couch she can get back to her old self as she continues to heal. Come to find out that the problems that the rest of your body can encounter from issues stemming with your teeth are endless. Things you'd never even think about as possiblities. Man I cannot express how glad I am that this is over. Thanks so so so much to all our good friends and family for all the support over the last year while we tried to figure this all out.

Working from home

So for the last 11 weeks I have been killing myself at work. Literally taking no breathers during working hours and staying on task 100% of the time so I could win a contest to be one of 12 people in the office to participate in a trial of working from home. It came down to the wire and the competition was stiff (theres 200 of us) but I got a slot.

I cant wait to gain back the time in my day that is currently wasted on commuting and putting it toward more productive things. Getting more sleep and exercising more are the two things that come to mind. But taking the pugs for walks on lunch and being able to take a paid break to straighten the house sounds so good right about now.

Basically I'm looking forward to my personal day being much more productive and rewarding based on this opportunity. I don't have an exact day but it should be very very soon and hopefully the trial succeeds and I can come home and work permanently.

My secret to my own sanity

MMA. Thats what helps me blow off steam. Whether it's watching it, cornering, judging, fighting, or debating it, mma is by far my #1 outlet. A long time ago I heard someone say that one of the secrets of life is to have something to look forward to. Don't get me wrong, I love to come home, I love to hug my wife and kids or play with the puppies and those things are as fulfilling as could be. What I'm talking about is the pure primal satisfaction that I get from being part of mma with all of it's adrenaline, controversy, physicality and intense action. Theres nothing like being there when the main event is about to start, the crowds deafening screams as they pump up their fighter, the music is insane and you see two highly skilled bad asses as they enter the cage at a pinnacle in time ready to demolish the opponent on the other side. Seeing them unleash hell in a combination of controlled rage and highly evolved skills as they do everything in their power to prove to themselves, friends, family, and trainers that they are in fact the better man that night as they impose their will despite the best efforts of their opponent. It's truly a thing of beauty and it soothes me to have mma as my outlet.

The cool things about sons.

A couple things have happened recently that just struck a chord with me for some reason. Last week I walked into my 8 year olds wrestling practice and the first thing I see is him blocking the arm and spinning to his opponents back for quarter position. He looked like such a little stud in his wrestling gear, keeping a good base, and gaining position, it was just one of those moments. He didn't even want to wrestle but he has natural athleticism and I told him he'd be awesome at wrestling and man did he pick it up fast. Then the next day I'm at Hadens practice, he's in sixth grade and he's sparring with a 9th grader who took fourth in district and controlling position, it was just cool to see him doing so well against a much older kid with so much more experience. Last night I'm down in the gym lifting weights with the music blasting and I look over and Haden is doing some squats, Gage is doing some pushups, and my stepson Caid is jumping rope on the wrestling mat and everyone was just 'into' it. Very small but very cool moments that make it so cool to have boys.

A quote that sums up SOME of my feelings

"I don't identify with the label 'former mormon.' My religious heritage is a bit like an old and outgrown pair of childhood pajamas (nearly thread bare and tattered)--which lay neatly tucked in the back of my drawer, rich with memories, history, perspective, sentimental attachment...and ocassionally give me pause for real reflection. I did not LEAVE my pajamas but merely out grew them. I cannot throw them away...but it would be ridiculous to wear them and pretend they still fit."

Six Feet Under

2 nights ago I was watching the episode of Six Feet Under where they host a biker funeral and as a gift the widow gives Nate her dead husbands Harley. At the end of the show it jumps to him hauling ass on the Pacific Coast Highway, he was swaying the bike back and forth and just...hauling...ass. It reminded me of my ride to St. George this summer. I like the winter for a change but seeing that scene had my mouth watering to get back on my bike and get the wind in my face.
