The cool things about sons.
A couple things have happened recently that just struck a chord with me for some reason. Last week I walked into my 8 year olds wrestling practice and the first thing I see is him blocking the arm and spinning to his opponents back for quarter position. He looked like such a little stud in his wrestling gear, keeping a good base, and gaining position, it was just one of those moments. He didn't even want to wrestle but he has natural athleticism and I told him he'd be awesome at wrestling and man did he pick it up fast. Then the next day I'm at Hadens practice, he's in sixth grade and he's sparring with a 9th grader who took fourth in district and controlling position, it was just cool to see him doing so well against a much older kid with so much more experience. Last night I'm down in the gym lifting weights with the music blasting and I look over and Haden is doing some squats, Gage is doing some pushups, and my stepson Caid is jumping rope on the wrestling mat and everyone was just 'into' it. Very small but very cool moments that make it so cool to have boys.

A quote that sums up SOME of my feelings
"I don't identify with the label 'former mormon.' My religious heritage is a bit like an old and outgrown pair of childhood pajamas (nearly thread bare and tattered)--which lay neatly tucked in the back of my drawer, rich with memories, history, perspective, sentimental attachment...and ocassionally give me pause for real reflection. I did not LEAVE my pajamas but merely out grew them. I cannot throw them away...but it would be ridiculous to wear them and pretend they still fit."
